Trading Karinchak is risky, but Cleveland has several SP that might need to pitch out of the BP in 23. The Dodgers get a 4 WAR SS that doesn’t block anyone in their system or cost an arm and a leg, a closer, and the best defensive CFer in baseball that hits RH to pair with Peralta.

I’m on board. I’ve noticed on this site it’s hard to convince Dodger fans of any trade. I would think with the Padres breathing down their neck they would want to shore up some weak spots, which this trade does. The risk here is on Cleveland, with proven MLB talent going to LA.
With Hentges likely out someone needs to step up, or they need to stop being so damn cheap and sign Will Smith (I was hoping for Chafin). So losing Karinchak now isn’t ideal, but I am more than willing to move him.
I’m a fan of Brennan, so would have him start in center. I am not high on Gonzalez as a full timer player, so would put him in a platoon with Outman.
Gimenez moves to SS (where he belongs), which gives Freeman (or Arias) a chance to take the 2B job.
I’ll be honest, I doubt any team wants either Rosario or Straw. Especially a team that expects to compete for a WS title. Any team in that position doesn’t deliberately take on middling players unless there is injury and no depth. It just so happens that the Dodgers might be in that circumstance after Lux’s injury. Straw is garbage and I shouldn’t have included him in this deal.
I wouldn’t jump the gun on Hentges. It’s shoulder soreness right now so we’ll see what it leads to. Hopefully he’ll miss minimal time and be ready for the start of the season.
I too like Brennan and he’s a pretty good defensive CFer in his own right, but Outman is better.
When it comes down to it I don’t blame the Dodger fans for downvoting this deal.
Cleveland needs to do something because if they’re going to have Amed at SS, Straw in CF and whoever is supposed to be C(not Naylor evidently) then they might not make it to the playoffs. They need to improve the backend of the rotation as well and that hasn’t happened yet either. Meanwhile the Twins got better and we can’t rely on them and the White Sox to sustain the same amount of injuries they did last season. I guess we can, but it’s not a good strategy. Should any of Gimenez, OGon, Kwan or Naylor regress and Zunino not be able to perform well then we’ll be standing around with our junk in our hands at the end of the season.
