Braves fan here. Feeling curious.
Why take on Isiah Kiner-Falefa? ?Would he play shortstop? No faith in Vaughn Grissom? How much more overall production do you think Kiner-Falefa is going to be to the Braves in 2023? I think it’s probably going to be low 1+ WAR for Kiner-Falefa and a high 1+ for Grissom. I’m also a homer for the Braves So give us all an idea as to why this is a good trade idea with regards to supplanting Grissom.
Or are you thinking that Isiah Kiner-Falefa would be better at second base? Not an Albies fan maybe?
Or maybe Kiner-Falefa’s primarily coming off the bench? I read that the Yankees are looking at him to play all over the diamond. I”m all for a super-utility sort of guy. Probably not the sort of role that I’d trade for during Spring Training though.
Kiner-Falefa’s coming with a six million dollar contract. That amount puts the Braves very closer to the luxury tax. I don’t think the team’s unable to take on money that would be them into such a bracket but I do think that it’ll have to be propelled by a need greater than a defensive depth piece and especially when the team already has Arcia and a slew of good outfield gloves in camp.
Why would the Braves part with Michael Soroka? Are you a big fan of Kolby Allard? Ian Anderson? Anderson can be sent down. Bryce Elder? I’d bet on Soroka first among that group.
Is this just a Yankees-centric trade proposal that has a redundant player, an expensive one just based on last year’s performance, going out and a player coming back that has superior cost control, future upside, and fits the teams needs better? It’d be silly if it was just another one of of those thoughtless trade ideas where it’s nothing more than a one-sided thing
