There’s no reason to do a trade like this today. Both Brujan and Patino have options and the Rays don’t need 40 man space right now.

I want Tristan Gray on the opening day roster. Not to prove myself right, but because it’s the right thing to do. I suggested him because I didn’t think JLowe would make the opening day roster. I now do. But then Gray showed up to spring training and OPS’d 1.500 against MLB pitching, not coming in in the 6th to get 2 PA against a 30 year old in AA. I want to reward 33 HR last year and the best Spring any Ray has had in a decade.

Just like they got Honeywell a start just as a reward, and just as Mastro got a promotion as a reward, I want everybody to know that effort, dedication, and performance will be rewarded. Gray deserves opening day.

I would rather have Gray than Raley. Better fielder, and I believe with some better luck, a better hitter. But the Rays seem to be set on Raley. Raley’s made it through a lot of cuts, and is out of options. My proposal is I’d like Gray on the opening day roster, at the expense of Yonny. Gray gets a PH in one of the first 4 days, then gets optioned, and Yonny gets recalled to start game 5. Gray gets the best day of his life, his parent’s proudest day of their life. Yonny makes his scheduled start. Raley and JLowe aren’t impacted.

This requires opening a 40-man roster spot. Either Patino or Brujan have to go.
