This is obviously a smart trade and the reason is because while Bruce Hooper makes like a billion dollars to hit .205 he will get the braves so many wins in critical home run derbys where his sweet hair and strong jaw distract the judges from noticing his dad lobbing meatballs while his last nuclear blast is still in orbit. He can also force the braves’ opponets to choke like he did jonathan papelbon. While the phillies are forced to abandon their pipedream of hooper returning to his steroid fueled home run binge of that one year he was good, they in return get the undisputed greatest hitter to ever grace AA ballparks. Waters project to slug 3.625 when the braves finish manipulating his service time and unleash him like a raging bull upon the hapless pitchers cursed enough to be stared down by this bringer of death. Because the phillies have so much payroll flexibility thanks to underpaid young contributors like Andrew mccutchen, david robertson, and ryan howard, they can afford to pay Waters the $80 million a year he will command in arbitration.
