Angels get a catcher to help fill in while O’Hoppe is hurt, plus a pair of pitchers who marginally upgrade the back of their rotation, without trading any top prospects from their already weak farm system. White Sox save 15ish M between the remainder of their salaries for the year and Clevinger’s buyout, and get a token prospect.
I went with Ramirez for the token prospect, a 20 year old reasonably toolsy OF in A+ ball who could be interesting if he can drop his strikeout rate by 10%. If I were the White Sox, I would push for Mederos or Pina instead. I would also ask about Luis Torres, a 1B/OF who isn’t in baseballtradevalues. He was great in DSL last year, but he was already 18, which is slightly older than average for that level. He could be fun lottery ticket type prospect for this kind of deal.
