This trade will probably not hurt Oakland or Houston, but the A’s will get a prospect that has a lot of potential. Loperfido is the Astros 16th best prospect ranked by MLB.com and Loperfido can play outfield, 1st base and 2nd base making him a utility player while batting .311 with a1.039 OPS, .581 SLG and an OBP of .458. Houston would get Nick Allen, who they could demote to the Minors to have him work on his hitting and Richard Lovelady, who has a 1.54 ERA in 13 games with 6 walks and 13 strikeouts.
I’m thinking about the future for the A’s not the present. I’m aware that the A’s infield will suck if this trade happens, but that’s why the farm system exists. The A’s could just promote Logan Davidson, and see how he does at shortstop. I think everyone knows that the A’s are going to suck this year, which is why they should be thinking more about the future then right now. The A’s are getting an undervalued prospect in this trade, so while it will hurt the A’s now, it shouldn’t hurt them in future years to come when they get a new shortstop that can hit the ball. Another thing to note, the A’s farm system has been listed as a bottom ten farm system by a few sources like Bleacher Report, Athletic and Mlb.com, so it would make more sense for them to lose more games so they can get better picks, and to improve the farm system.

This trade ABSOLUTELY hurts the A’s because it makes Aledmys Diaz or Kevin Smith the starting SS.

Except with the Lottery now in effect we’ve seen the A’s have the 2nd worst record in baseball and end up with the #6 pick.
A’s are better served holding on to Allen and Lovelady.
