There’s nothing close to a blue chip prospect in that package, which is what the Reds gave up to get Bauer in the first place. The Reds are clearly not tanking next year, but even if they were, they can do better than this.

  2. Karthik Iyer

reds just traded for bauer at the deadline. they plan on contending in 2020 and this is a worst-case scenario where ship blows up. even in a vacuum, they are going to want way more than this. there’s little to zero projection in that group, and they ultimately sold low on trammell, the ultimate potential prospect, to get bauer (like Kevin said above).

  3. Will M

So the Reds would have turned blue chip prospect Taylor Trammell in to a bunch headlined by Luis Rengifo? In all of 6 months?

  4. Senor Chuckles

Alright, I hear ya. Just messin’ around with the trade simulator. The idea is the one-year rental would haul a starting second baseman, a cheap back-end starting pitcher, a 4th outfielder, and a low ball OF prospect. I agree that the Reds can do better. If the Angels were to pursue Bauer as a plan B, then I could see a better package being offered. Angels FO can offer an extension after a trade is completed.
