Starling Marte is a great OF coming off a career year, but he does not fit into the Pirates long term plans like Bell, Reynolds and others do. The Pirates get a good pitching prospect with a high ceiling in Ryan Weathers as the headliner in the return, and also get OF Edward Oliveras who put up fantastic numbers in AA this past year and flashed all 5 tools with a .283/.349/.453/.801 slash and 18 HRs, 77 RBIs, and 35 SBs. Weathers is a few years away, but has 1st round pedigree and a high ceiling, while Oliveras is close to MLB ready, perhaps to help fill the hole left by Marte in the OF (he can play all 3 positions).

The return for the Padres is obvious. Marte immediately becomes their best OF and can play all 3 positions, add much needed hitting production, and is good on the bases.
