Mariners send Gabby Gonzales, a Top 5 Prospect in their system by most reports projected to hit MLB late-2024 or 2025. Mariners also include Taylor Trammell & Devin Sweet as throw ins with lots of control and some ML experience that can placehold and potentially pop.
Mariners get Andrew Vaughn to upgrade from Mike Ford in the offseason and give Ty France something in his rearview mirror. Gabby is a high price but I think that’s what needed to get it done. Jerry loves his former first rounders that never quite lived up to potential.
It’s funny that you should bring up Mike Ford, as he is literally a more valuable player than Andrew Vaughn at this point (121 wRC+ vs 102 wRC+).
Being picked third overall means close to nothing after three years of fair-to-mediocre offensive performance in the bigs (93, 113, 102wRC+), and he’s certainly not going to garner a top 3-5 prospect from any farm system, let alone one with additional throw-ins.
