At his point I’d rather just convert Martinez to CF. There were talks of that happening anyway so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him and Brito getting OF work this offseason.

If Martinez can be a legit defensive CF he would be a nice utility piece, but he doesn’t have the bat to be a starter anywhere but the MIF

Brito probably doesn’t have the speed for CF but he could hit enough to stick in the OF (I could see him developing into a Brantley type hitter if he hits his absolute ceiling). That would help balance CLE’s roster, but they would still have extra young MIFs

Like the base idea isn’t bad, but Carlson plus Crooks isn’t enough to merit Angel Martinez from Cleveland… Plus Carlson, I don’t think is ever going to repeat his rookie year, which means, he’s not worth trading for in Cleveland’s mind… They would rather give those ABs to a Valera…

Cleveland isn’t trading for an OF unless it’s a legit upgrade over anyone they currently have and Carlson is not it…

Cards take this 100% of the time though…

Carlson is a legit upgrade over Straw, and if he rebounds to his level last season over Brennan as well. Even in this down year, he would be CLE’s 2nd best hitter vs LHP. His BABIP is 40 points lower than his career average and his woba is 25 points lower than his xwoba, so it looks like he’s been unlucky at the plate this year rather than actually taking a step back

Valera isn’t a good AAA player yet, much less a good MLB player. He has a hole in his swing at the top of the zone, and I think he’s finally running into pitchers good enough to exploit it in AAA. He hit well enough at lower levels, may be dealing with lingering issues from the wrist injury, and is young enough that he could still develop into a good MLB player, but he needs more time in the minors

Carlson hasn’t done anything over his last 600 ABs plus is undergoing surgery to repair a bad ankle… .

Cleveland needs a legit upgrade and Carlson isn’t that… Brennan and Straw mix in CF in 24, plus Straw can play INF if needed as the bench guy… They will look to upgrade the OF, but it’s going to be someone way better than Carlson.

The idea of the move, is perfectly fine, but Carlson isn’t the answer since he doesn’t add the pop, they really need at the end of the day, plus he isn’t as good of a CF as Straw
