I’d love to hear the story behind this trade and how on earth the Astros will afford this.

The Astros wanted Eovaldi last winter, and his injury history was not much better, then. The Betts contract is just 1 year, and they are losing some payroll this year and next. Eovaldi would replace Cole. JBJ replaces Marisnik, and they get 2 nice prospects. (Duran may replace Betts and or Springer after 2020.) The Sox save money and get a top young player. Marisnik takes JBJ’s place. Reddick helps out the money imbalance as does the $12M going to HOU.
