Garrett is the only LHRP so far, not trading him away.
Do not need a 1B or Price.
Chavis isn’t really a 1B. He was a 3B for most of his minor league career and played 2B in the majors because of Devers at 3B. He can also play 1B. Eugenio Suarez just had surgery and Chavis, who hit 18 HRs in 350 ABs would be a good fit. Amed Rosario is going to be a star SS. David Price at $20M a season is a steal and he is another former Vanderbilt pitcher for the Reds pitching coach. The Mets could include Steven Gonsalves as a LHRP for the bullpen. And most importantly the Reds get an All Star SS without giving up Nick Senzel.
Per the Reds Suarez should be ready by opening day (I hope).
If there was someone other then Garret, I would like this more.
We need a lefty (or more), in the pen
The idea behind the trade
1. The Red Sox need to jettison salary (David Price and Mookie Betts) without taking on any large contracts in return, and it has become apparent based on Boston media that Mookie will be traded. This is an opportunity to get young, controllable starting players (Jonathan India, Brandon Nimmo, Dom Smith and Michael Desclafani) and get under the Luxury Tax.
2. The Reds are poised to contend this season. They need a starting SS (Amed Rosario), a player who can play 3rd for the injured Eugenio Suarez (Michael Chavis) and they also get to a Cy Young caliber LH starter on a 3 year $60M deal (David Price) to complete the best 1-5 starting rotation in baseball (Price, Luis Castillo, Trevor Bauer, Sonny Gray and Wade Miley).
3. The Mets and their GM are under the gun in NY. The Yankees have made tremendous moves in the last 2 seasons, while the Mets made one of the worst trades in franchise history (Robinson Cano for Jared Kelenic) and have had 3 managers since the season ended.
Trading Brandon Nimmo, Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith is risk because Betts will definitely go to free agency, and Bobby Dalbec remains a question mark. But the Mets GM has to go all in.
This trade will make each team better in 2020 and that seldom happens in fan designed trades.

This makes zero sense on the Mets side. Trading away 4 years of control on a SS who has made strides in the 2nd half of last year, a more than adequate OF in Nimmo (who’s cheap) for one year of Betts? And this doesn’t even take into consideration how this would blow the Mets over the luxury tax level.
As a Mets fan, I’m not seeing the Mets make another stupid trade just because the “Yanks have made tremendous moves…” Granted, BVW/Jeffy might do something stupid like this because back page banners fly forever, but the one thing that trumps any stupid trade is that luxury tax limit. Fred won’t have them in that range, ever.
