This trade makes no sense for the Cardinals.
They trade away young talent for a 31 year old player who gains much of his value due to his speed.
Merrifield also would have to play in the outfield in St. Louis, where his bat would be helpful but not difference making.
Clearly a trade that massively favors the Royals.
I agree. Cardinals trading away one of their better arms in the rotation as well as a young OF in exchange for someone who wouldn’t be able to play his normal position without removing Kolten Wong, a really good all-around 2B. This trade makes little to no sense on the side of the Cardinals.
