Why would the Mariners want Inciarte when they have Haniger, Lewis, Fraley, Bishop, Mallex, Lopes, Moore, splitting time in the OF and Kelenic, Rodriguez, and Trammell all pushing themselves on to the MLB roster next year? Last time I checked you don’t fix a log jam with more logs.
While I will admit it’s not a great trade proposal, I think that’s true more so for the Braves because they’re giving up two likely better players and saving only a couple million.
The Mariners are probably looking at adding a left handed bat, as they were very right handed down the stretch and may not want to count on their in-house options. Someone like Joc Pederson in free agency who can hit righties, play LF/DH, and possibly 1B if needed, basically fits all of their collective weaknesses. Inciarte is a different potential source of that value against RHP but coming in the form of defensive value.
