This essentially becomes a 1 for 1 swap, but Williamson as a kicker doubles-down on the Mariners risk. Sure Rutschman could be great, but this could also turn into a really lopsided trade. Rutschman has the upside of something between a Jorge Posada and a Joe Mauer, but catchers tend to struggle to use all of their tools with the grind of MLB baseball, which is why you can rattle off Piazza, Mauer, Rodriguez (Pudge), Posada as the best catchers of the past 20+ years. But let’s be clear, Rodriguez could be Juan Gonzalez or Ryan Braun prime with the bat. Williamson is a side-arming lefty with a mid-to-high 90s fastball and his numbers in 2019 were ridiculous.

A trade of two top level prospects is extremely rare. The closest parallels I can think of in recent years is Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda and Delmon Young for Matt Garza, Although in both cases, those players had all reached MLB before being dealt.
