The Diamondbacks get out from under $15 million in future obligations while landing their righthand-hitting outfielder in former first-round pick Phil Ervin. In outfielder David Peralta the Mariners secure a defensively adept lefthand-hitting placeholder for top outfield prospects Jarred Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez and Taylor Trammell. Seatte essentially purchases pitching prospect Jon Duplantier with Peralta’s salary for two years.

It’s a decent concept but it may be a bit too expensive for the Mariners to sign off on, and it doesn’t help the Diamondbacks as pseudo contenders to make a subtraction like this.
