It depends on what they view their window of contention is. If they feel like they are going to be able to make a playoff push in the next couple of years it would make sense to hold onto merrifield but i dont know if they are going to be strong enough to do it within that time frame as i dont know that all of their core foundation pieces will be ready by then.

Sorry just posted on your other trade too. But royals are trying to win now and I think the moves they are making in free agency and the belief around the clubhouse is they are tryin to win now. Merrifield is a guy that is way more valuable to the royals than he is to any other team so that’s why he will probably never get dealt. Salvy is so important to the royals success and is probably untouchable unless it was an insane deal. Guys on the major league roster that are available are probably limited to more established bullpen pitchers, soler, Duffy. But the royals most likely going to trade prospects if anything else

No worries. I appreciate your perspective and thoughts on the royals and where they are at. I think this trade simulation is fun because its cool to hear from other fans of the game and discuss it. I feel like the 3 hardest teams to find fits for trades are the marlins, royals and tigers. All 3 are young teams with some great young players either starting their mlb careers or thought to be stars in the near future. I do agree with you that perez is seen as a leader on the royals and likely essential to the development of their young pitchers. I just wanted to see what i could do with a trade with the royals where they saw their older players as expendable due to their their window of contention not quite being all the way open yet but i agree with your points that they arent likely to trade perez or keller. I feel like they could move merrifield but it would probably be just him and for a substantial package that could make their team deeper.

It’s nice to actually see some people give reasonable explanations for their like/dislike of a trade.

Many times there’s never a comment, and people just give the thumbs down, because they believe one player is worth WAY more than their value on here indicates.

You both take a reasonable stance. I would lean toward KC wanting to compete in the periphery of the playoff picture this year based on their moves thus far. This trade might be something better explored around the trade deadline than during this off season. Although I don’t believe the Yankees would include Schmidt in a package not including a better MLB pitcher.

I have really appreciated how people give constructive feedback and rationale reasons to why they disagree with a trade suggestion. I know that some of my trades are more realistic than others and some i try as experiments just to see how crazy of a deal i could work out, but typically apply some kind of motivation behind each team’s involvement. I feel like the yankees are one of the most serious contenders and i feel they would be willing to give up future unproven prospects for a better chance to win a title now, especially they have gone more than a decade since their last one (an eternity in yankee years). I do agree that keller would be a lower end target and they would likely prefer to aim higher but i do feel they would like to target someone on a cheaper contract via a trade than free agency due to the already considerable contracts of stanton and cole. Thank you for your insight and i hope to hear from you in other trades too!
