Since Lamet is questionable because of injury the Pads really need another SP. Enter Castillo. They give up very good prospects and 2 good ones vs only giving up one very good prospect in the Snell trade but Snell’s value of 52 is far less than Castillos 114 on this site. Castillo is just cheaper.

Reds get two very good prospects, two good prospects and a flyer for a pitcher they feel they can replace (options include Lorenzen, Hoffman, Antone and De Leon)

If the Reds decide on a rebuild, this could. One of the few that actually gives up 2 good prospects.

Padres are one of the few teams that could actually meet the asking price of the Reds for Castillo and still be functional. Dodgers as well. If Castillo does move, I think it would be to SDP or LAD.

I agree with the rebuild perspective but as this winter progresses I also think the Reds feel a rotation of Miley, Mahle, Lorenzen, one of Antone/Hoffman/De Leon and one of Gray/Castillo will be a very formidable starting rotation. I really have not been able to discern which of the three they prefer. My thought is De Leon is better suited for the bullpen but he has looked so good thus far.
