Perhaps a challenging amount of payroll for STL to eat, but adding perhaps 7 wins should secure pole position in a relatively weak NL Central. The noise around Arenado’s opt-out is secondary – the Cards assume he doesn’t opt out and isn’t worth the subsequent money, but Marquez makes up for it.

Colorado cuts bait on a broken situation and adds a couple of live, close-to-the-majors arms in a year in which the NL West looks well out of reach.
