Before you come at me with this, just think about it. Yankees NEED to offload Stanton’s contract and are entering a rebuild (they won’t be good for the next 5 years) Dominguez won’t be worth it for them when he gets called up next year and Gleyber won’t be either. The Rays have CJ Abrams and they’ll be getting JP Crawford and more Yankees prospects. The mariners take on a bad Stanton contract because they’re rebuilding but Franco makes it all worth it for them

As a Mariners fan this trade would be awesome. We could give up 3 years of Crawford for 6+ years of Franco, add in Dominguez, and the only bad contract we have to carry is Stanton, who still could return to form at any moment and be a stud DH for years to come.

As a Rays fan, I don’t get it. Frazier is a DH who can masquerade as a LF for a few games here and there, Torres is great, but he is essentially a toss up for talent with Franco, but they are trading down 2+ years of control and the fact that Franco could still be offered a sizeable long term deal to be a Ray for up to 10-14 years as we saw with Tatis Jr. While Garcia and Gomez would be useful, the reality is that Crawford has the same amount of control as Aybar and has a similar skill set, but Aybar has more power and is slightly better overall offensively. The bigger issue being that the three MLB players are relievers which usually get screwed in arb. unless they are a closer with saves, which is unlikely except for maybe Nick Anderson. The other two are controllable assets. So while they will have a similar number of arb. cases Torres, Crawford, and Frazier are position players, something that usually gets rewarded well in arb. cases. Nothing of which makes sense for their 2022-2025 payrolls.

As a Yankees fan, I would consider this a head scratcher. The Bronx Bombers would be giving away two boat loads of players, Torres, Dominguez, Frazier, Garcia, and Gomez. This would all be done for the sake of clearing Stanton and his massive contract off the books, which probably still comes with some form of veto that would clearly be activated against Seattle with Mathers being a loose lipped idiot and the Mariners looking like the worst run sports organization since the Browns. What I mean is that getting rid of Stanton should be with the goal to make room for Frazier to take a starting spot, but the cost to fill the holes left by absolutely destroying their farm system and getting rid of the few pre-arb players that keep them under the cap, they would have to spend far more than Stanton’s contract to replace him and that doesn’t include the fact that he’s not even a net negative.

Any salary dump before next offseason will have to be by helpless player who cannot veto the exchange. But yes, as a Mariners fan I would be all over this deal.

This trade is so bad from the Rays perspective that it isn’t even worth my time to explain.
