Nice trade concept that fits for both squads. The Jays don’t have much use for Grichuk, who is currently an expensive backup to Springer and Hernandez. What’s more, they don’t have the ABs to allow Riley Adams to find his approach at the big league level. They get to convert those two players into Craig Kimbrel, who showed last year that he can still induce elite swing and miss when his mechanics are right. The Jays also unsaddle Grichuk’s salary for 2022 and 2023.

The Cubs meanwhile add two players who could provide the Cubs an opportunity to move Bryant or Contreras or even Happ in a trade. Riley Adams would be the big acquisition, a player who could have a massive ceiling if a team helps him shorten his swing. If Joc Pederson begins the season as an absolute minus against lefties, then Grichuk could also operate as a weak side platoon.

on top of everything you mentioned if they dont move contreras I thought adams could be a nice rizzo replacement if they elect not to bring him back, and I think pete walker can help kimbrel although not at braves/red sox level, find some of his former success. Thanks for the feedback!

Kimbrel is probably done, but acquiring him for an overpriced bench bat is a good PR message for the Toronto fans…

They acquired Giles for an overpriced bench player?

first off grichuk isn’t a bench bat, he has proved he can be a valuable piece on a team who is need of a cf like houston, but he is overpaid and the bluejays have a big surplus of outfield talent, and the situations are very similar being forced to sell for the giles trade.
