Why do you think Oakland would be interested in Beeter? This seems a very unusual target at this point of the season.

Dodgers plan to develop him as a starter which A’s need long term. If it doesn’t work out he’s a likely closer. Do you really think Tom or Kemp are needed this season or is it that Perez or Beck are going to be worth more later?

I think Lowrie is 37 with the knees of an 89 year old and Chad Pinder is on the IL; so yeah, Kemp is needed for infield depth.

My feeling is that Beeter’s medical history is going to lead him to the bullpen and trading Beck or Perez for a RP prospect would be a wasted opportunity. They’re young, have Tools and have the potential to be big league regulars if they develop. (They also have a lot to prove in that regard.) Plus, Oakland has a knack for finding arms off the scrap heap. Put it all together and I just don’t see the upside for Oakland.

Thanks for explaining your thought process.

          Machin.

I’ll trade potential big league regulars for a starter with ace upside without flinching and if Beeter *only* ends up being a lights out closer then it’ll still be worth it. I’m mildly worried that the Dodgers pull a Muncy with Beck but Perez’s below average speed and average arm means he’s best suited in LF. Plus he’s found money to Oakland. See: Jonah Heim

To cover SS, 2B, 3B until Pinder returns… it’s a little too thin for my liking. And I think you are drastically over-estimating Beeter’s “Ace” upside. I believe the smart play for anyone wanting to acquire him from the Dodgers would be to view him as a future RP, maybe one who can move quickly, and price accordingly.

            Thanks for the discussion.
