It’s remarkable how little the White Sox have to work with when it comes to trades. All of their valuable assets are in the majors. But I think they’ll need to leverage the little they have left to land Frazier.

This is quantity over quality. If the Pirates GM did this deal he would be run out of town. Kelley is just starting out and iffy at best and he is the major portion of the trade. Dalquist has been getting shelled at A. Bailey and Adolfio are lottery tickets. Frazier would bring a much, much better return if the Pirates put him out there.

For what it’s worth, I agree. I think this is the best the White Sox can do… in just about any trade, without having to delete from the MLB roster. That farm system is BAAAAAAAD and it’s only going to get worse as they try and contend.

Now, I don’t know what Pittsburgh realistically thinks they can get for Frazier. He’s sporting a .362 BABIP, which is 50+ points higher than his career average. He’s also doing this while his peripheral numbers like Statcast metrics are worse than they were in 2020 (when his wRC+ was 56 points lower).

He’s not going to bring back a major haul or a top 100 prospect, or likely anything close to it.

To put it more direct: Guys like Adam Frazier are exactly the kind of “quantity over quality” trade candidates GMs look for. Give over 3-4 middling prospects with the expectation 1-2 of them will turn into a contributor someday.

There’s nothing about Frazier that suggests he’s a reliable guy that I’d give up a “quality” return for him.
