Hayes goes home to Texas. Pirates get some mlb vets bats for start of window. Athletics shed salary and get good prospects

Replace Heim with someone else, he’s not going to push Sean Murphy out of the starting catcher slot.

      • Andy Spafford

Yep, that was my thought exactly. Heim’s offense has been terrible — he’s looking like a backup, and the A’s can fill that need cheaply elsewhere. Convert Heim into a ML-ready pitcher, and you have a decent trade here. Jung could be a stud, and Foscue looks like a good 2B prospect (although that’s not an immediate area of need for the A’s — an OFer or a 2nd pitcher would be better).

The Pirates are starting their rebuild. All three will be gone by the time they are ready to compete. Plus they add a whole bunch of salary, which would never happen.

Current 40 man tops out at 50M. They won’t overpay for FAs but have traded for salary
