As a Braves fan, I’d rather not trade 3 for 2 promising guys and I’d rather keep Elder in this, because he looks to me like he’s more likely ready to jump to the Majors in 202 over Bolton. I don’t have any “deep dive” knowledge of these prospects & Chris Stratton.

I like this trade proposal because it’s full of intriguing players but I don’t think it’s much more than shuffling the deck. Package these names with a headliner and then, as a big fan of hypothetical trades, I’m entertained by learning more about how I feel ’bout it all. But without an emphasis on how a trade like this moves the needle, so to say, I’m blasé.

I’m a Pirate fan so I can give some insight on both. Stratton is a very solid reliever who is very durable. Can provide 70-80 innings while posting a 3.50 ERA. He’d probably be a 3.20-3.30 ERA pitcher with the Braves’ defense. He isn’t lights out, but durable and solid are his biggest strengths. Plus he’s a high-spin relief pitcher who didn’t see a massive RPM decrease after MLB started to crack down on sticky stuff. Bolton on the other hand was arguably one of the Pirates’ top 3 starting pitcher prospects before their rebuild started in the 2019-2020 off-season. He has a three pitch mix, all of which project to be average or better. The issue has been health as last year he missed all of 2021 due to a meniscus tear. Not the highest upside, but a guy with the ceiling of a solid #3 or high-end #4. I know three prospects is a pretty decent package, and I’d forgo either of Vodnik or Hernandez as if the Pirates really wanted to grab the ladder, they could in the rule 5 draft. Still, it gives the Pirates a few RHP’s with upside, the Braves a RHP pitcher with upside, and a worthwhile reliever who can fill mutliple roles.
