Rays begin using some of their prospect talent to add to their window over the next two seasons. Chapman becomes the everyday 3rd baseman who with even the slightest of improvement with the bat (over the last two years and could be some injury lag time) is a solid enough hitter and GG caliber defense to solidify the IF and line-up. Acton is 2-3 years away from the majors but profiles as a strong reliever with big KO ability.
A’s begin planning for the future and start acquiring young talent 2/3 players at a time with what they will be doing. Edwards is going to be a very good baseman and follows the same time frame as Gelof and Allen by 2023. Johnson is going to be a TOR down the road and Gaston a high ceiling arm at age 20. A’s could have asked for a guy like Bradley instead of Johnson and maybe Brujan over any pitcher but that limits how many prospects they may get in deals. If the A’s are looking for quality AND quantity in trades, they’ll have to pick their spots.
I can’t see the Rays trading two top arms (and assume Chapman’s higher salary) to improve 3B by 0-2.0 fWAR. The Rays have a ton of top position player prospects needing Rule 5 protection in December. Rays need to trade from that group, not the pitching side.
Chapman to the Rays doesn’t seem like a fit. I haven’t been keeping close track of the Tampa rumor mill but from what I’ve read, it sounds like the Rays want more of a platoon 1B/3B type. I think the Phillies, Mariners, and Blue Jays are the most likely destinations.

Down vote for Oakland.
The A’s can’t trade any prospect capital right now and Edwards is a 2B-only player with no power.
So, are you looking to add Brujan in any deal for Chapman?

Some thinking they might add a solid 3rd baseman to keep Franco at SS for now.
Maybe. Although I think in that scenario Taylor Walls becomes the piece the Rays would want to deal.
