Considering his full NTC, I doubt the Twins would be able to acquire Andrus without guaranteeing his 2023 option. And with Nick Allen in the fold, there’s no way Andrus will get the PAs to activate the option in Oakland.
I seriously doubt the $7M the A’s would owe Andrus (as long as he doesn’t get 550 PAs in 2022) would be worth the A’s wasting Manaea for an extremely weak return like this deal. They could probably deal Andrus later in the year and get something in return.
Also dealing Andrus later in the year allows for his option to automatically exercise. To get a team to take him, you might have to include something enticing. Otherwise the A’s fans get to watch Chapman and Olson walk so they could afford Andrus.
Considering his option, moving Andrus does save Oakland a lot of money.

He’ll probably get his 550 PAs. He’s only missed total 3 times, and in 2 of those seasons he missed by less than 10 PAs.
