There’s been a lot of speculation that the Twins and A’s could get together and make a trade that would send Frankie Montas to the Twins. The A’s are not going to be competitive the remainder of this year or in 2023 at a minimum. So looking for “major league ready” players is not in their best interest. The trade I’ve posted gives the A’s 2 good young arms in Ober and Balazovic. Ober would step right into the rotation spot for Montas and Balazovic could be ready early next season. Theilbar and Puk basically switch bullpen slots. Cano is another bullpen arm that’s had a taste with the Twins this year and would probably log some innings for Oakland yet this season. Wallner is a young power bat/corner outfielder and Gordon is a utility type player that has proven his value with the Twins, but looks to be getting squeezed out by guys like Royce Lewis, and others.
