  1. This looks good based on the numbers from this site. What these numbers don’t say is Ian Kennedy is owed 16.3 million this season and 2020. He is a free agent in 2021. Will Myers is owed 5 million this year and 22.5 million for the next three years. If the monies matched closer this might work, but they don’t. I doubt KC would want to take on Wil Myer’s contract.

I agree. Even though the site has the Padres getting the better end of this deal by a bit I think they would have to send some cash to Kansas City. How much I’m not sure. One other thing to point out. The Royals are currently last in FanGraphs WAR for 1B with no one close in the minors to help. Gotta think they’d be interested in moving Myers back to first.

Couple things: salary is of course taken into account in these calculations. You can see the total amount owed each player through the life of their respective contracts in the salary column. And keep in mind since these are negative numbers, the Royals are actually getting the better end of the deal, since they’d be getting a guy with less negative value. Having said all that, I don’t see the fit here, since I doubt Myers’ control years match the Royals’ window — to me, that’s the bigger issue.

Just want to clarify that the numbers do in fact show the salary owed to each player throughout the term of their contract. Since the numbers outweigh the projected performance value with both players, they’re both underwater. KC is actually getting the less-negative value here, but I agree that they wouldn’t want Myers back mostly because he doesn’t fit their window.
