Cleveland isn’t doing this mostly because of his age. I am not against the idea, I just don’t think they would…

He’s 30 and is inexpensive and not even arbitration eligible. In his rookie season he hit 324/369/563/930 with an OPS+ of 165 in 222 AB. Over a full season’s worth of AB he was on pace to hit 35 HR and 38 2B. His age fits into Cleveland’s window just fine and they would definitely have interest in this deal because they’re not stupid. The Nationals would only have interest in this deal because their window is 2-4 yrs down the road. Sometimes I wonder how you come about your logic?

Most trades are complicated and none of us truly understand what is going on with our favorite FO. Meneses though seems fairly straight forward to me. The Guardians need right handed hitting and this guy obliterates lefties. He would get around 150 ABs, at DH, RF, or 1B. I would think either Noel or Curry by themselves would get this done, but I would trade both in a heartbeat. Why on Earth would Washington need any 30+ year olds on their team? Plus they got Call for nothing which I’m still not happy about.

The issue in my mind isn’t Meneses talent in my mind… It’s the fact they are trading two decent prospects for a guy who has 200 ABs at age 30… That’s just something I cannot see them doing…

If they were to get Meneses, he would get more than 150 AB….a lot more, and if he continues what he’s been doing for a couple of seasons now then someone is probably going to get fewer AB. The dude is a hitter and the age of 30 is not an issue. Especially at his cost(league minimum). He’s precisely the type of hitter this team needs and an excellent insurance policy should OGon falter.

I can’t believe SC didn’t mention his “leadership” ability due to his age and experience. I guess it doesn’t fit his narrative.

As a Nats fan, I vote no, mainly because its selling low on Meneses. Its worth it to the Nats to let it ride. He mashed the second half of last season. He’s on a heater in the WBC. If Meneses posts a ~130 wRC+ in the first half, he should bring back more than this. Even at age 30, you’d expect him to produce similar levels next season. So that basically means a season and a half of a ~130 wRC+ from a corner OFer.

And I think the Guardians would be very interested. This guy slots in to LF, pushing Kwan to CF, and Straw to the 4th OFer, late inning replacement guy. Meneses would slot in beautifully between Naylor and Bell.
