Rays won’t have any interest in this trade. Glas is a better pitcher than Cease and the Rays don’t really need Cease’s 1 extra year of control (2 if the Rays trade Glas because of his cost next year).
Respectfully disagree. Rays keep Glas through 2024 and then get a QO draft pick in return for him, after winning back-to-back World Series championships. 🙂
But seriously, Glasnow’s injuries were all arm related and his TJS is expected to have fixed that particular problem. The oblique injury this year is a new one, but he’ll be back in a couple weeks and is expected to dominate. Even if that weren’t the case, the Rays simply don’t trade FOR pitchers like Cease (ie: guys who are fully valued and would deplete the Rays’ Farm of several top talents). Rays might have interest in Kopech, Giolito or any number of relievers, but Cease isn’t someone they’ll want to trade for.

Glas is not a better pitcher than Cease. Cease is a perennial Cy Young candiate who is younger and far more durable than Glasnow.
Glas has been held back by injuries but when healthy he’s better on the mound. He returns to the Rays in 2-3 weeks. Rays roll with Glas.
The most important ability is availablity. Glasnow is basically deGrom at this point.
The Rays are 100% trading Glasnow. The only question is when.
