Pirates get package of young CF/2B solutions

A’s get an experienced lefty for 2B.

    • Chad Lynn

With Machin & Kemp, they already have a choice for a lefty platooned 2B.

Frazier projects as league-average, which the A’s can essentially get in aggregate from Barreto/Neuse/Mateo/Kemp/Machin without spending prospects or adding salary.

        Good points.
Machin seems to a nice future ahead of him.
But then so does Frazier. He finishes each year very string. His Home splits are comparatively high to road which might imply comfort level is higher there. In other words, his overall game can be expected to keep improving as roads games become “routine”.
Barreto & Mateo are out of options so A’s have more players than roster spots.

        per MLB, notable 2B Defenders:

        Pirates — 2B Adam Frazier (+11)
Frazier made a big jump in OAA from 2018 to ’19, going from +3 to +11 to lead the Bucs. He was also a Gold Glove Award finalist at second base in the NL.

        Reds — SS/2B Freddy Galvis (+12)
Talk about consistently excellent — Galvis checked in at +12 OAA for the second consecutive year. Cincinnati acquired him from Toronto midseason, and while his bat is relatively light (despite 23 homers last year), his defense up the middle is about as dependable as you can get.
